These days, people no longer regard the garage as a place for piles of junks, messy shelves and unnecessary storages. In modern homes, the garage has been transformed into a multi-functional place that is now the center of furnishing and design.
Gone are the days, when people walk with a lot of clutter on the garage floor. Garages are now more organized than ever before. It is still a place for both working and keeping things. And arranging your stuffs and tools in the right places will give you better and easy access to the tools your frequently use. Garage organizers are such a must have for garages.
It is important to always consider in garage organizing all your garage necessities like where to place tools, where to hang your caps and the bicycle. And other basics you need to closely attend to.
It would be easy for you if you draw a plan on how you are going to orderly place your tools and things on the wall. This is the best way for your garage organizers. Mount a piece of plywood at least ¾ of an inch in thickness on the garage wall. This helps protect your concrete wall from boring holes even in wooden garage walls. Then, on the plywood, screw in brackets and hooks to allow you to hang and suspend all your things like shovels, hammer, screwdrivers, and even your sports stuffs like tennis racquets and badminton racquets, your golf clubs and other things like raincoats and working clothes.
A good garage organization system should include shelves. Shelves are really good to allow more space for storing especially in a limited area. Make sure though it does not interrupt or compete for the car parking’s area. You can go for pre-fab steel garage shelves that are durable or you can have custom shelves built for your garage. Plastic garage shelves are also available as a less costly alternative. Should you go for custom shelving, have your shelves wide and tall enough to accommodate more storage. Typically, shelves can have a height of 6 feet. The most common depth of shelves is 1 foot. For larger garage spaces, you can have shelves on more than two walls of your garage.
Assign a specific shelf for specific things. It would be best for you to mark or label each shelf for easy location and access of your commonly used tools. Place the heavier things like paint cans on the lower shelves while place things that are less frequently used on the top of the shelves. Garage organization has never been this easy.
You may also include freestanding shelves for your garage organizers. These are great for small garage areas. Also perfect for homeowners who regularly update and change the arrangement of their garage. Freestanding shelves are mobile and they don’t have to be mounted on walls so you can drag them anywhere in the garage should you need to change it. Make sure, however, to place them in a flat and non-tilted floor surface.
For added storage that will not consume any floor area, go for hanging beam shelves. These can be installed near the beam or ceiling, good keeping place for the not-so-often-used materials.
Pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals used for cleaning like toilet cleaning products, air sprays must be kept in tight and secured cabinets. These storage areas must be locked up and preferably placed in elevated parts of the garage. They should be labeled appropriately.
It is best however to keep these chemicals and other flammable liquids and products in steel cabinets. Do not place heavier materials as well on top of freestanding shelves as it may give in. For added safety, screw in these shelves to the wall so they will not tip.
Some dealers and stores are offering full and complete garage organizers that are priced fairly at $10,000 or you can go for other economical alternatives like plastic organizers. Experienced and seasoned carpenters can help you attain that well organized garage.
